Poch not concerned about transfer window

Basingstoke Gazette: Rickie Lambert Rickie Lambert

Mauricio Pochettino has indicated that Saints will not be active in the January transfer window.

The Saints boss has also played down rumours that players such as Rickie Lambert could leave when the market opens next month.

He said: “We’re not really concerned with the transfer window in January.

“We’re really happy with the young players that are part of this team.

“We’re really happy that the young players are actually partaking in the training sessions with the older players in the team and that they’re getting a feel for what it is to be in the senior side.

“I think that gives us a very important equilibrium, a very important balance in the team, and we’re really happy with their contribution, so we’re not really looking toward the transfer window.”

Asked about the possibility of players, and specifically Lambert, departing in January, Pochettino said: “Rumours do exist.

“Probably this season we have rumours that concern from the president to the kitman.

“So we don’t really know where all these rumours are coming from. So we need to be fully focused on our work and to be fully aware that this period is going to be full of rumours.”

I hope he is playing his cards close to his chest. We are desparate for a goalkeeper and another decent centre half.

Wherever Poch feels the need for strengthening, I believe a GK and central defender also, I doubt he'll do it in this window as Artur will be back during it and he'll bank on him being fit and back to his error free best till the end of the season. As for any outfield player coming in it'll take time to get up to the required fitness levels and used to playing in the system so don't think he'll take that risk.

The main thing is to keep the squad together and not let any of our players leave, tho Gaston could well go, then add in the summer as Poch sees fit.

AGREE - THese are key areas for SAINTS to strengthen.

RICKIE IS GOING NOWHERE.

A GOAL AGAINST THE SPUDS - A TRADEMARK FREEKICK AND A WIN AGAINST CHELSEA ... AND CARDIFF WILL GET THE CONFIDENCE SKY HIGH.

WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON.

Exactly. This is really getting on my t*ts now. Gazza hasn't made any serious errors since he's been back in the team, in fact he's made a couple of very decent saves, so why people keep harping on about needing a new keeper RIGHT NOW I just can't figure out.

I'm not concerned about the transfer window, either.

GK? Boruc's back soon, so is Davis, what what are we going to do with another keeper then? We could a short-term loan, but what would be the point in that, and what good keepers are available? No club is going to loan us their second-best keepers, and their third-bests aren't going to be any better than Gazza.

CD? Fonte is almost back, and he & Lovren were the league's best. Again, what top-quality player will come here to be third choice?

Mayuka - good if he comes back if he's ready for the challenge; he's got pace, which is the only thing we really lack.

Otherwise, let's bring kids through as and when, and pick up a bargain in the summer, maybe.

Wherever this came from, it could be right. He needed some game time and to gain some confidence and, having done pretty well in France, both those boxes have by now been ticked. I'd like to see a bit of pace off the bench and, if he's now ready to step up to the mark, he might just be the one to provide it.

Enjoy the scotch!

For me the Grateful Dead are bit too far one way and Fleetwood Mac are far too mainstream.

So, if I were MP, I'd bring in Graham Parker to add some 'steady nerves' and a bit of 'protection' to the defence. (Did you see what I did there?)

That was his only mistake and fortunately he got away with it. He was trying to clear the ball first time. I don't suppose it entered your head that he was worried by Boruc's attempt to control and play the ball at the Emirates and the resultant goal?

Now, can you tell us exactly what goals his incompetence was responsible for?
Exactly. This is really getting on my t*ts now. Gazza hasn't made any serious errors since he's been back in the team, in fact he's made a couple of very decent saves, so why people keep harping on about needing a new keeper RIGHT NOW I just can't figure out.
i take it you didnt c him gift to ball to Remy...only becaue he is sh1t they didnt score...he is so dodgey the defenders dont trust him he needs a couple of years in the championship before being a number 1 in the premier league.
That was his only mistake and fortunately he got away with it. He was trying to clear the ball first time. I don't suppose it entered your head that he was worried by Boruc's attempt to control and play the ball at the Emirates and the resultant goal?
He was probably wetting himself that the boo boys would get on his back even more if he tried to do anything too 'fancy' with the ball. People just don't seem to understand that undermining a player's confidence is a ridiculous thing to do - few players play better when they've got their own fans on their backs.

I used to go out with Stevie Nicks when I was a young stud (she was on my wall), in fact I was two timing her with Debbie Harry. I felt a bit guilty at the time but now it’s just second hand news.

I suspect transfer window activity - or lack of it - will, I consider, depend largely on the results over the next 4 games. if Saints are to be taken seriously as a team on the up then anything less than 5 points (1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss) out of 12 should get alarm bells ringing and movement in the transfer window.

Yeah let's all boo him and see if that makes him improve.

This lad was bought for £2m from Gillingham. It's a massive step up and that's a massive transfer fee. Boruc is our number 1 and Kelv second choice but both injured and also getting older. How will Gazza step up if not given game time to improve himself?
