WHITCHURCH United manager Jim Macey says his side are confident they can create an upset after being drawn at home to Basingstoke Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup.

The Camrose club will make the short trip to Longmeadow in late January after the two teams were pulled out together when the draw for the quarter-finals of the county cup was made at the weekend.

Macey said: “I asked the lads who they wanted and most said Basingstoke home or away. Town won’t relish playing on our pitch much and we fancy our chances.”

The other ties in the last eight will see Havant and Waterlooville host Farnborough, AFC Bournemouth travel to Gosport Borough and Portchester host Petersfield Town.

Basingstoke boss Jason Bristow said: “The other four teams either in our league or above all drew each other, so two of them will go out, but we will not underestimate Whitchurch because they are on a very good run.

"It’s nice that we don’t have to travel very far and it should be a good game.”
