Pardew: Lallana must go to the World Cup

Basingstoke Gazette: Alan Pardew Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew insists Adam Lallana is in with a genuine shout of making the England World Cup squad.

The former Saints boss was impressed by his one-time St Mary’s charge after the skipper rose from the bench at half time to inspire his team to a point at St James’ Park.

Lallana has put himself into Roy Hodgson’s reckoning for the plane to Brazil and Pardew wouldn’t be surprised if he made the trip.

“He’s a different sort of player to the other English boys they’ve got,” said the Newcastle chief.

“He made a little difference when he came on for sure.

“He’s definitely got a chance of going to the World Cup and he proved that to the Newcastle faithful in that second half.

“Having said that, we had great chances in the second half to have won that.

“Hatem (Ben Arfa) came on and I was very reluctant to take Gouff (Youn Gouffran) off, he was terrific again, and Hatem nearly opened the door.

“It was that close a game.

“I don’t what their manager has said, but I’m sure he was very proud of his team and I am too.”

There’s was a bizarre moment in the game as referee Mike Jones was-pole axed by an accidental slap in the face from Moussa Sissoko that left him with blood coming from his nose.

“The ref’s got a bloody nose. He’s trying to patch himself up for the Christmas party,” joked Pardew.

“He took it in good heart really. He realised it was a bit of a flick out at the goalie who had flicked out at him and it was all a bit silly.

“Unfortunately he ended up with a bloody nose.”

Pardew added: “It was a terrific game.

“We had a hold of the game, they had a hold of the game, we got a grip back.

“I’m pleased in a lot of respects that our momentum goes on because it was a great performance in a lot of ways.

“We had two big chances that fell to Loic (Remy) and he played well, but those two chances I expect him to take.

“That can be the difference in a game as tight as that, and it probably cost us.”

AP must be considering himself lucky that Lalla wasn't 100% fit on Saturday, as the outcome may have been different. Pure speculation of course but a fair bet that we would have played differently had he started.

Agreed, I always believe that if your fit enough for the bench then your fit enough to start the game, Lallana is clearly our best player and the team is built around him. bit like le tissier.

Is everyone else noticing that Poch keeps making errors by playing yoshida and hooiveld every now and then? these players are prone to terrible errors.

Keep playing fonte and louvren who are the best defenders weve had for a while. I feel as though we need another centre half like louvren as back up.

We also need another keeper especially if DAVIES is still unfit.

Adam and Luke to go, England need to start rebuilding and give the next crop the experience of Brasil.
Have to say agree with one of the other posts, another keeper option is required. Gazzanigga's fumbles nearly cost us the game.

Concensus seems to be that we need another central defender and more experienced goalkeeper cover and I couldn't disagree. Heart's in my mouth every time the ball is passed back to Gazza. Nonetheless, that was a great point at St. James and one we can take encouragement from. Nice to see AP taking a balanced view of the match.

Not sure if this is a serious post.

1. Taking your comment "I always believe that if your fit enough for the bench then your fit enough to start the game" then what you're also saying is "if you're not fit enough to play the whole game, you shouldn't be on the bench". i.e. you're arguing that Lallana shouldn't have played at all on Saturday.

2. Fonte is injured. Not playing him is a necessity, not an "error".

If you're going to post at all, try thinking first.

Poch isn't making errors, if he could play Fonte and Lovren he always would, he plays Yoshida and Hoover because his first choices are unfit, there are no other suitable alternatives, although we know they are not first picks, they always do their best when asked, but it would be difficult to persuade new players, equal to our first picks, to join us knowing that they would only be warming a bench until needed.

fans are naive mate, players arent really injured, please dont believe everything you say or hear from anyone.

Its also very funny how players get injured all of a sudden when they are about to be transferred!

You spotted him first, I was a suspicious, but you have nailed him pdq.

To be honest, I have no problems with posters who put their wind ups on here, they soon get sussed, but what annoys me more is them resulting to being abusive instead of responding with a sensible argument, when challenged, since the Club has been doing relatively well and the skates have lost the bragging rights, we have had a fairly clean web site, with plenty of contentious views, debated with plenty of feeling, but lacking the abuse that used to be prevalent. You can take the mick without resorting to censored abuse, so why bother? Support the Saints onwards, and upwards.
