MATCHDAY LIVE - Basingstoke Town v Bromley

This live event has finished

  • FULL-TIME - Basingstoke Town 0 Bromley 1
  • Town narrowly beaten by Conference South leaders.
  • Pierre Joseph-Dubois scores the winner on 38 minutes.
  • Town lose captain David Ray to a second booking after the break.

That's all for today folks. Town were desperately unlucky today. Join me at Bishop's Stortford next Saturday.

It's another defeat and another game without a goal for Town - but they were very unlucky today.

Bromley came here as league leaders but Town were dominant in the second half, into the wind and despite going down to 10 men.

The reaction of the Bromley players after the final whistle said it all. They were really tested today.

Reaction to follow.

Basingstoke Town 0 Bromley 1

Town will have four minutes of added time to find a goal.

SUBSTITUTION - Bromley - Taylor Parmenter on for Pierre Joseph-Dubois (88 min)

That's another one off the line, this time at the Bromley end. Adam Green gets in down the left and his lobbed centre looks to be sneaking in until it is headed off the line.

Two more massive chances for Bromley as Town press.

Smart fails to get enough on a header back and Goldberg is in, though Wells might have been able to beat him to the ball. He manages to hold the striker up, allowing Green to get back and make a great goal-line block.

The next chance falls to May, but Wells makes the save.

That could have been game over. Town are caught on the break and Joseph-Dubois is through on Wells but the 'keeper spreads himself to make a good block and keep the hosts in it.

Town go close three times in quick succession.

First, Barrett gets his head to a corner from Green but the ball is cleared off the line.

The ball is not properly cleared and Holder-Spooner does well to work space for a shot, which is excellently tipped over by the Bromley 'keeper.

the resulting corner is a low one that somehow fizzes right across the face of goal without being touched.

That's a great corner from Manny Williams but nobody can get on the end of it.

Adam Green lets fly from a free-kick in a dangerous area but it's straight into the wall.

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Robbie Matthews on for Shaun McAuley (71 min)

Town have decided to go to three at the back and Bromley look set to add to their lead.

May has had a couple of chances but hasn't managed to test Wells yet.

David Ray - Basingstoke Town

Ray slips when last man and has to handle the ball to stop a Bromley player having a clean run on goal.

It's a second yellow card and Ray is off.

Nathan Smart loses the ball out wide and a low cross finds Goldberg at the near post - but his effort is straight into the arms of Wells. A bit of a let-off.

SUBSTITUTION - Bromley - Ryan Hall on for Brandon Kiernan (60 min)

Bromley's May lets fly from distance. It has plenty of power but flies wide.

SUBSTITUTION - Bromley - Elliot Buchanan on for Danny Waldren (57 min)

If anything, the wind is getting stronger.

A cross from the right is only cleared as far as Adam Green and his powerful shot smashes against the upright.

A scramble follows, during which Ibe accidentally blocks Holder-Spooner's effort and Williams' poke is saved.

Town have made a positive start to the second half, showing purpose and keeping the ball well.

That's a good ball in from a corner by Adam Green. Neil Barrett gets his head to it but cannot direct his effort on target.

Dean Pooley volleys at goal from the edge of the area but he doesn't catch it right and the ball ends up a long way wide.

Town get the second half under way. The wind remains strong, and it's into their faces now.

The teams are back out for the second half. Doesn't look like there are going to be any changes.

Can Town turn this around?

At Huddersfield, Billy Sharp's header has Reading a goal up. Remember, live text commentary from Newcastle v Saints and Basingstoke RFC v Tonbridge Juddians can be found elsewhere on the site.

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but I fear Town may struggle to get back into this one.

They have to play into the wind in the second half.

Again, they failed to turn decent positions into chances in that half, wasting numerous corners with poor delivery.

Basingstoke Town 0 Bromley 1

Danny Waldren - Bromley

Waldren goes into the book for a foul on Williams - but the free-kick is a poor one and proves to be the last kick of the half.

Adam Green lets fly from distance but gets well under the ball and it sails miles over.

There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.

Town force another couple of corners but again fail to make them count.

Basingstoke Town 0 Bromley 1 - Pierre Joseph-Dubois (38 min)

A poor goal to concede. A bad clearance gifts the ball to the visitors and the ball is played out to Kiernan on the left. His ball in is deflected up into the air and PIERRE JOSEPH-DUBOIS somehow gets up above Wells to loop a header into the net.

Nathan Smart - Basingstoke Town

Smart kicks the ball away to prevent a kick throw and becomes the latest Town player to go into the referee's book.

Town force a series of corners but are unable to make them count. They need to be ahead at the break because it's not going to be fun playing into the wind after half-time.

Shaun McAuley shoots from 20 yards and his shot takes a deflection before bouncing narrowly wide.

Brandon Kiernan shoots from the edge of the area and it's not miles wide of the Town goal.

The wind really is strong, moving the ball as people are trying to take dead balls.

Kezie Ibe - Basingstoke Town

Ibe is booked for not allowing the Bromley goalkeeper to take a quick free-kick.

Andrew Jenkinson - Basingstoke Town

Jenkinson is booked for a foul in midfield. Soft.

Bromley have the ball in the net again. Once more it's ruled out, this time for a foul on Louis Wells as he looked to claim a high ball under pressure from Rob Swaine.

Wells hit his head on the post and has to have some treatment. He also has a verbal altercation with a Bromley fan behind the goal.

David Ray - Basingstoke Town

Bromley break dangerously and Ray goes into the book for a late challenge on Jay May.

The wind has really got up since the game started. Town have it behind them at the moment.

Bromley have the ball in the net but it's chalked out for offside. Quite how that header snuck in at the near post, I'm not sure.

A mistake from Smart and Wells has to clear in a hurry.

That's a nice move from the hosts but Kezie Ibe is just unable to thread the ball through to Manny Williams.

Bromley have looked the more dangerous side so far, but it's not all one-way traffic.

Bradley Goldberg puts in a dangerous cross from the left but nobody can get on the end of it.

A mistake from Bromley left-back Joe Anderson and Town have an early corner. The ball falls to Holder-Spooner on the edge of the area but his shot was always rising and ends up well over.

Looks like it's 4-4-2 for Town, with Holder-Spooner on the left wing.

Bromley get us under way. They will shoot towards the Clubhouse End in the first half.

Here come the players.
