LODDON Vale ladies played their second match in the Riversmeet two weekends ago, beating a strong Chawton Park team 93-71 to move to the top of the league.

The Winning rinks were Tina Rogers (30-5) and Claire Flannigan (25-15). The two losing rinks were Karen Winter (23-18) and Sheila Girle (28-20).

On Saturday, the club met Bournemouth in the second round of the Top Club competition but they unfortunately lost 81-71.

Duncan Rogers won the men’s singles 19-11, while Nicole Rogers drew her singles match 14-13. Ted Brown’s pairs narrowly lost 20-18, Ian Laming’s rink went down 21-14 and Steve Shaw’s triples lost 15-6.

Loddon took on Chawton Park in a friendly match on Saturday. They lost 97-89, but the defeat may have been due, in part, to the slow Chawton Park mat.

Graham Bennett won 27-12, Alan Smith won 17-13 and Peter Grant won 15-13. The losing rinks were Brian Roberts (15-14), Bob White (16-14) and Ernie Sparrowhawk (18-10).

The Sunday friendly against Three Counties Fellowship saw the club get back to winning ways, emerging 149-78 victors.

The winning Loddon rinks were skipped by John Holmes (27-7), Laming (27-9), Frank Fuller (27-10), Steve Foyle (20-14) and Mick Jones (27-17). Fred Goddard managed a 21-21 draw.

In the morning’s Wessex League match, the club went back to the top of the league thanks to an 87-48 victory over Banbury, a scoreline that saw Loddon take all 16 points available.

Laming won 23-13, Trevor Morgan won 22-11, Fred Norris won 22-11 and Steve Shaw won 20-13.

West Berks are second, eight points adrift of leaders Loddon Vale, with Carterton in third, 21 points behind.
