STUART Mogg is the latest Bison player to be selected for Great Britain and flew out to Italy this week to take part in the World Winter University Games.

The 19-year-old forward, who studies at Solent University, is in action today with GB as they take on Russia in Trentino.

The young Brits have been drawn in a strong pool and they will face Slovakia on Saturday and finish their group games against the Czech Republic two days later.

The other two four-team groups are made up of Italy, Latvia, USA and Sweden and Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

The top eight teams make it to the quarter-finals, with the other four teams sorting the places nine to 12.

The team is captained by former Basingstoke junior and current Cardiff Devils forward Luke Piggott, while there are two other English Premier League players in the team along with Mogg in Swindon’s Sam Bullas and Telford’s James Preece.

Bison forward Mogg said: “I am really looking forward to the tournament and we know it is going to be tough, but it will be a great experience.”

The event has a high pedigree of players and fellow Bison team mate Tomas Karpov played in it a few years ago.

Mogg joked: “We play the Czech Republic so I am hoping they are not a team of Karpovs.”

Zach Sullivan is also in international action at the moment, playing for Great Britain under-20s at the World Championships in Scotland.

GB were unfortunate to lose 4-3 to Italy in their opening game on Monday, but they were well beaten on Tuesday, going down 6-1 to Kazakhstan.

They face France tonight, Ukraine on Saturday and Japan on Sunday.
