HOOK distance runner Charlotte Purdue picked up an individual bronze and team gold medals at the European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade.

The 22-year-old was among the front runners for most of the under-23 6km race and led a breakaway of three at the halfway stage with Sifan Hassan and  Amela Tezic.

Dutch runner Hassan took over the lead in the final 1.5km of the race and won in a time of 19min 40sec.

Serb Terzic finished second six seconds behind the winner and Purdue was third three seconds further back.

The Hook runner also picked up a team gold, as five Great Britain runners finished in the top eight along with Purdue they were Kate Avery fourth, Lily Partridge fifth, Rhona Auckland seventh and Jess Andrews eighth.
