Basingstoke Ice Skating Club are looking to celebrate their 25th ice show in grand style, when they perform The Magic of Dreams Christmas Show on the weekend of December 14 and 15.

The show will include 190 skaters from the club – aged four to more than 70 years old – for the highlight of the skating calendar in Basingstoke.

There are four performances of the show which are at 2pm and 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday.

Simon Hawthorne, chairman of Basingstoke Ice Skating Club, said: “We include everyone in the show and for those in their first show it is very exciting.

“I think with ice skating being so much an individual sport, it is nice to do something like this as a team and I know they enjoy it.”

Hawthorne, chairman of the club for the past three years, added: “We have 50 gold skaters at the club, which is the next level down from competitive skating.

“I think people who see the show will find it great family entertainment.

“We have a show committee of six, but we have about 50 helpers and without them it would not happen.”

Head of the coaching team putting together the show is Peter Baekgaard. The three-times Danish champion has plenty of experience of ice shows having skated in the Holiday on Ice show.

Baekgaard said: “This is the second year I have been involved with the show. I love doing it as we have a great team here.

“It is so nice to see all the skaters enjoying themselves and they put in so much hard work.”
