WITH only one game in which to pick up points last weekend, it was important for us to get another home win under our belts, especially against our top-of-the-table rivals Guildford.

We found out later that we had a spell in which we scored four goals in the fastest time this season, but more important to us was that in the first period we put together the best 20 minutes of hockey we’ve played all season.

I wrote last week how disappointed I was by the level of our performance when we beat Peterborough 6-0.

I think we’re getting back on track. We’re creating chances, scoring goals and finding ways to win games. We’re at our best when we’re playing with a high tempo and making full use of our depth.

We’re going to miss Zach Sullivan in our next four games as he is representing Great Britain.

As always, we take great pride in the achievements of individual members of the Herd and we wish Zach and the GB team every success.

After our home game on Saturday against Telford, our next three games are away, as Planet Ice presents its Christmas show, which will, I’m sure, be playing to a packed rink.

I’m sure, too, that there’ll be lots of teddy bears appearing on the ice this weekend for our annual fund-raising event.

As a club, we benefit enormously from the support of our fans in Basingstoke. It’s great to be able to give something back to the community at this time of the year.

If you’re looking for a great night out in the run-up to Christmas, why not treat the family to the entertainment on offer at the rink. There’s nothing to beat hockey night in Basingstoke!

All the best,

Doug.
