AFTER starting the season with eight straight defeats, Overton RFC finally claimed their first win in Hampshire One last Saturday, beating visiting Bognor 33-22.

The hosts trailed 12-8 at half-time but hit back in style after the break, with No 8 Ryan Cornell scoring a hat-trick of tries and hooker Liam Hobbs also going over.

Overton remain 12th and bottom of the table, but they are now just two points behind 10th-placed Romsey, who they face on Saturday.

Tadley remain top of the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier after recording a comprehensive 51-12 win away at Slough on Saturday.

Full-back Chris Dennison’s try put Tadley ahead but, having lost flanker Luke Titley to the sin-bin, they conceded two tries to trail 12-5.

Further tries from Jake Cottrell and Kyle Brewer had the visitors 17-12 ahead at half-time and they ran away with the game in the second half, Craig Raymond, Charlie Cox, Bob Lowe and two more from Dennison completed a good win.

Tadley are without a game this weekend.

North Hampshire rivals Kingsclere and Aldermaston met in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Championship on Saturday, with visiting Aldermaston emerging 18-12 winners.

Tries from Jonnie Newman and Elliot Lowe had a makeshift Aldermaston side in pole position but they needed a late try from James Atkins to make the points safe.

The result means Aldermaston remain third in the table, while Kingsclere are still bottom. Aldermaston host Risborough on Saturday, while Kingsclere travel to Berkshire Shire Hall.

Chineham suffered a 15-9 reverse at home to Ventnor at Castle Field on Saturday.

The hosts kicked two penalties to lead 6-0 at half-time but Ventnor scored two tries, two penalties and a conversion to forge ahead after the break.

Chineham almost pulled a try back late on, being held up over the line, but they did manage to kick three points and secure a losing bonus point.

The result leaves them sixth in the Hampshire Two table ahead of a tricky trip to second-placed Fareham Heathens this weekend.
