Poch will continue to promote Saints youth
Mauricio Pochettino says his own rise to football stardom means that he will never stop promoting from the youth ranks at Saints.
Pochettino came through the ranks in Argentina with Newell's Old Boys before a long career that included more than 20 international caps.
Having benefitted from a progressive youth set-up, Pochettino, who has academy produced young guns such as Luke Shaw, James Ward-Prowse and Calum Chambers in his first team squad, will continue to encourage their development.
"I am a person that has always given a lot of value to the youth teams in clubs," he said.
"I was actually onw who came out of the youth ranks in one of the best youth academies in Argentina at Newell’s Old Boys.
"Also when I was managing Espanyol I always liked to reinforce and push through that academy culture of pushing through the younger players. I really value the younger players at any club.
"One of the main reasons I actually signed for Southampton was that I understood perfectly that they wanted to push that academy system, to reinforce it and that boded very well with how I viewed the future of the football club.
"I am happy that things came together so well for Southampton."
