Powerlifter Jean Maton claims four world titles
BASINGSTOKE powerlifting star Jean Maton signed off her season in fine style by winning four gold medals at the International Powerlifting Federation World Masters Powerlifting Championship held in Orlando.
The 50-year-old was delighted with her medal haul, and this followed on from her four gold medals in the European Championships in August.
Maton said: “I never expected to win four golds, as in the dead lift competition I only came out on top by two-and-a-half kilos so that was a pretty tight.
“It was great to equal my own world record in the bench press and it was also nice to help the British ladies to third place in the team event.”
Maton completing in the 84kg class of the Masters Two category, produced an excellent set of lifts which included a squat of 172.5kg, bench press 117.5kg and deadlift 187.5kg which all won her gold medals.
This gave her a total of 477.5kg for her fourth gold and her sixth overall World Championship title.
Maton said: “It was a good competition for me as I made eight of the nine lifts I attempted and it was a great way to end the season.
“At the moment next year the World Championships are set to be in the Czech Republic so I plan to defend my title for sure.”
The Basingstoke powerlifter will next be in action in the spring of 2014 at the British Masters.
