EARLY results suggested that this season Manchester were going to run away with the league, so heavily were they scoring against the opposition.
Last weekend’s games lent a more realistic perspective.
Our win against them on home ice was our best team performance of the season and confirmed my belief that we have the depth and quality to match anyone.
I know that there were some who were concerned by the loss of two Great Britain international players in the summer but it gave me the opportunity to build a different kind of team. And it’s teamwork that is bringing results.
Last Saturday’s win was another proud page in the history of this club and it was great to share it with so many of you.
Of course, we were tired the following day in Bracknell but early goals posted our intent.
I was able to give ice time to some of our younger players and they made full use of the opportunity.
Have you noticed how often we score soon after they have finished their shift? It’s as if watching and willing them to do well lifts us all when we take to the ice.
We had to dig deep on Tuesday evening, when we made the long trip up to Sheffield.
Mid-week road trips can be difficult but we had to build on our successful weekend.
One hurdle is playing in a rink where there is little atmosphere, especially when we’re used to playing in front of so many passionate fans at home.
You will know, of course, as you read this, whether we cleared that hurdle.
See you then.
