Good cup win for Welly Old Boys
WELLY Old Boys beat Alresford Town Reserves 3-2 to reach the next round of the North Hants Intermediate Cup.
Dale Bristow gave the Basingstoke and District Saturday League team the lead in the first minute, while Ben Nicholls headed home on 33 minutes, making it 2-0 at the break.
A penalty reduced the deficit but Ryan Evans restored the two-goal advantage and while Alresford pulled another one back late on, the hosts won through.
New Inn and Basingstoke Royals were drawn against each other, with New Inn going through after a 4-0 win. The game was scoreless at the break but goals from Lee Chambers, Nick Jupp, Joe Richardson and Luke Richardson won the day for New Inn.
Sherborne St John beat Soldiers Return 4-0. Ibrahim Waheed got the first after five minutes, while a Matt Livingstone penalty and Dave Gridley made it 3-0 at the break. Steve Price completed the scoring in the second half.
Hook caused an upset by beating Ludgershall Sports 3-1. Aaron King opened the scoring, Phil Haig doubled the lead before half-time and Jon Noakes headed a third, while Ludgershall pulled one back from the penalty spot late on.
Popley lost 2-1 to Broughton, while Old Basing Rangers crashed out with an 11-2 defeat away at Hampshire Premier League outfit Crusaders, Alex Lipscombe and Lewis Holloway getting their goals.
