Tadley Calleva suffer defeat at Stockbridge
TADLEY Calleva staged a brave fightback but went down to a 3-2 defeat away at Hampshire rivals Stockbridge in Wessex League Division One on Saturday.
The visitors did not play well in the first half and went behind on 25 minutes, Stockbridge scoring from the penalty spot after Simon Bird had been harshly penalised for handball.
Tadley improved after the break but conceded a second goal on 55 minutes, sparking a double substitution from manager Danny Dolan, who introduced Callum Bush and James Milford into the action.
The response was almost immediate, Brett Denham latching onto a quickly-taken throw-in before beating the Stockbridge goalkeeper one-on-one – and the visitors were level with 70 minutes on the clock.
Again Denham was the scorer, converting Milford’s low centre – and Tadley felt the striker had completed his hat-trick soon after, but the referee ruled that his shot had been cleared before it crossed the line.
The visitors suffered another blow soon after, Sean Dallimore being sent off for a second yellow card offence, but they continued to press, with both Denham and Jason Graham going close.
However, it was Stockbridge who had the last word, scoring with a header from a corner in the 88th minute to claim all three points.
Tadley manager Danny Dolan said: “I was disappointed with the first-half performance and a few of the players need to look at themselves.
“I was really proud in the second half but we didn’t get any points. I would have been delighted with a point given all that happened.”
Tadley, who are now ninth in the table, are in action again tomorrow night, hosting Overton United in the North Hampshire Senior Cup, but they are without a game this weekend.
