Liz Orr stars as hockey ladies claim big win

LIZ Orr scored four times as Basingstoke Hockey Club’s newest squad, the ladies fifth team, celebrated a rampant 10-0 victory over visiting Portsmouth and Southsea last Saturday.
The rest of the scoring came from Grace Moon (2), Kerry Barker and Louise Posthuma, while Heidi Barker and captain Laura Devenish celebrated their first goals in senior hockey.
The ladies IVs claimed their first win of the season away at Petersfield 2-1 as Lynda Day and Hayley Rouse scored, and goalkeeper Gemma Allen saved a late penalty stroke.
A brace from Amy Bennett and a single from Sarah Traynor helped the seconds to a 3-2 victory against Andover The first XI left it late in their home clash with Southampton, as they won 4-3 after Claire Bowman scored the winner with a penalty shot.
Earlier, Fi Holdcroft scored twice and Roxy O’Dea got the other.
The men’s section saw the first all-Basingstoke clash as the Vs beat Vikings 2-1 thanks to a penalty stroke from Miles Hannwin and Simon Dann’s goal. Eliot Boyd replied for the Vikings.
The second team raced to the top of Hampshire Division Two table thanks to a 5-2 win at Bournemouth.
Ben Shaughnessy claimed his second hat-trick in as many weeks, while Martin Powell and Phil Stewart also netted.
Dan Holding scored twice and Sam Payne once as the men’s IVs won 3-0 in Havant.
The first team lost 3-2 to a visiting Bank of England side, with Grant Rouse scoring both goals.
