Under-16 Bison stage great comeback in Cardiff
THE Basingstoke under-16 Bison produced a superb comeback as, after trailing 3-0 in Cardiff, they went on to run out 7-3 winners.
The home side started the better, taking a three-goal lead in the opening seven minutes.
The young Herd hit back as new signing Chris Hocquigny got the visitors on the scoreboard.
As the first period came to a close, Basingstoke’s Connor Hutchinson was pushed to the ice and was not allowed to get up by the home player.
Teammate Hallam Wilson stepped in between them and was head butted, which saw the home side player dismissed and he will miss the return game in Basingstoke on Sunday.
The Bison came out for the second period fired up and looked like a different team as they scored in just 86 seconds from Wilson.
The game was then tied with two minutes left in the period as Hutchison pounced on a poor pass from a Cardiff defender in front of goal.
Then, with 64 seconds left, Wilson edged the young Herd in front 4-3.
Basingstoke increased their lead after the break as Wilson completed his hat-trick at 32:32.
The Bison then added a sixth as Josh Richards broke away to score after a great pass from Max Florey and it was left to Hutchinson to net number seven.
Netminder Jordan Lawday was the Herd’s man-of-the-match, with George Gill being the spirit-of-the-game winner.
