Late goal stings the Basingstoke Buffalo
A GOAL seven minutes from time condemned the Basingstoke Buffalo to a narrow 3-2 loss in their first home game of the season against the London Haringey Racers.
It was the Buffalo who opened the scoring through Alex Sampford, assisted by Mark Pitts and Gareth Wheeler, who was making his home debut for the team.
The visitors hit back two minutes later as Lee Hounslow scored from former Buffalo forward Drew Campbell.
The game remained level until just after the halfway point in the match as, with Max Tibbitts in the box, man-of-the-match Chris Beauclerk skated away to score shorthanded.
As the second buzzer got ready to sound, Haringey levelled the game from Campbell.
In a tense final period, the only goal came at 53:15 as Hounslow scored his second and, despite pulling their goalie, the Buffalo were unable to force an equaliser.
Netminder Steven Grout had an impressive home debut as he turned away 41 shots.
The Buffalo’s next game is on Sunday at the Wightlink Tigers, while their next home game is against Slough on November 3.
