AN encouraging 21 anglers turned out for proper fishing on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Froxfield.
In-form Colin Shepherd put pole, squatt and pinkie to good use and netted a winning 7lb 3oz of roach. Darren Wright fished pole and worm for his roach and skimmer bag of 7lb 7oz.
Match secretary Nick Sargent’s 7lb 3oz was a chopped worm and caster affair, while Graham Spiller caught 6lb 13oz of roach on the squatt and pinkie.
Full marks to Adventure AS for utilising natural venues.
Kennet Ospreys’ trip to Watmore Farm saw Steve Hunt draw the same peg he won from on the last match, and he repeated the performance with 86lb 8oz of carp on the pellet waggler and method feeder.
Second placed Mark “Red” Funnel caught carp to 14lb 8oz in his method-induced 65lb 10oz. Bartosz Recki fished the method for his 46lb 4oz of carp, while Graham Shadwell squeezed Glen Wills into fifth place, 43lb 11oz to 43lb 3oz. Did Glen Wills moan? You bet he did, but not as much as Ken Dack and Bill Suggers, who put “Jonesy” to shame.
The weather was cold, wet and windy for the 22 participants.
Oxoid AC went to Willow Pool for their latest match, where Del Baulsom scored with 16lb 10oz of carp and bits on the pole and red maggot. Shelton Caswell used the method feeder for his 14lb 12oz of carp. George Coomber’s 12lb 10oz was mainly one carp, while Simon Nicholls put 10lb 13oz on the scales for fourth spot.
Ten fished and three blanked.
Camrose AC were at Old Barlows for their latest match and it was match secretary pip Seeny who topped out with 21lb 12oz of carp and bream on pole and meat. Bill Atkinson’s 21lb 3oz was good enough for second, followed by Darren Brown’s 18lb 6oz of carp on pole and paste.
Nine fished and caught.
Adventure’s match at Frobury Farm saw Graham Spiller win with 45lb 8oz of carp on pole and meat. Steve Telford’s 43lb 12oz was a pole and pellet affair. Trevor Tarrant was next with 35lb 8oz, followed by Dave Stratford Ways’ 33lb 8oz.
Eighteen fished and caught.
Kennet Ospreys’ trip to Greenridge Farm put Graham Shadwell in pole position with 162lb 15oz of carp on method, pole and paste. Gerry Nickell’s 145lb 10oz was a pole and pellet affair. Glen Wills came next on 138lb 14oz, followed by Ray Shepherd on 133lb 8oz, and me with 132lb 10oz.

I’m back from my trip to Majorca, where on arrival, we found the hotel staff on strike.
’Er indoors soon furthered Anglo-Spanish relationships, and the strikers melted away.
That’s what I married her for.
Catch me next week.
