'Stoke under-16s continue perfect start to the season
BASINGSTOKE under-16s, pictured above, made it two victories out of two, as they won 24-21 at Trojans.
The visitors were first to get on the scoreboard thanks to Guy Black on the right wing and Matt Kouris kicked over the conversion.
The home side hit straight back to level the score at 7-7, but ’Stoke did not surrender the lead for long as Charlie Tibbles hit them hard and started a bulldozer run.
Quick recycling meant the backs got the ball along the line for Isaac Curtis-Harris to free Kouris to score into the left corner. The try scorer was unable to add the extras from out on the sideline.
The home side again hit back, but this time they took the lead 14-12 from a converted try.
Prop Rhys Driver started a move and after some great pass the ball found its way to fly-half Callum Donnelly. He saw a gap as he faked a pass and went over for the try, which Kouris converted.
The visitors then extended their lead further as quick ball resulted in prop Zack Lewis touching down just right of the posts and Kouris kicking another well-placed conversion for a 24-14 advantage.
The lead was then closed to just three points by the home side, but after that, good defence from ’Stoke’s young guns made sure they took the victory.
