Aldworth F continue strong start to table tennis season
10:00am Thursday 17th October 2013 in Sport
ALDWORTH F continued their strong start to the Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League Division Three season with a 7-3 win over slow starters AWE B.
Aaron Clark was the only player to remain unbeaten at the end of the night but even he had to survive a scare, being taken to five games by John Jenkin.
Barry Jones and Jack Farragher could not secure their maximums after suffering defeat in their five game matches against Ken Wyld and Robin Treadwell respectively - but both did secure two comfortable wins.
A marathon doubles win for AWE ensured that each match they won on the night went the distance.
In their first match of the season, Aldworth G had a convincing 8-2 win over Queens H.
The Aldworth duo of Luka Stipcevic and Kamil Nowak put any hopes of a Queens victory to bed after both taking trebles and each coming through a five game match. Nicole Roberts gave the visitors something to cheer about with a credible win over Paul Surplice in another match that went the distance.
Nevertheless, Surplice went on to take two wins and a straight sets doubles win was the only other highlight for Queens.
Aldworth D topped off a great week for the club in recording their own 8-2 win over Queens H.
Glenn Phur was barely troubled in only dropping a single game en route to his maximum. However, Aldworth weren't to have it all their own way with Alan White taking four game wins over Mike Wooding and Steve Curram.
This was as good as it got for Queens, with Wooding and Curram each recovering to take two wins and combining to take the doubles and complete the rout.
