Guernsey 31 Basingstoke 33
BASINGSTOKE RFC claimed their first win of the season with a dramatic come-from-behind victory away at Guernsey on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty but two quick tries put Guernsey 12-3 ahead.
Basingstoke hit back with an interception try from Matt Guilfoyle and while the hosts extended their lead with a penalty, Gavin Dampies' try levelled the scores at 15-15 heading into half-time.
The visitors retook the lead with a penalty early in the second half but Guernsey leapfrogged them with their third try, only for Basingstoke to move within one point thanks to another successful kick.
The hosts then scored two penalties and a try to move 31-21 clear with just 10 minutes left - and it seemed 'Stoke were destined to fall to another defeat.
However, when a Guernsey player was sent to the sin-bin, Basingstoke took full advantage. Ryan Davis gave them hope with a try that got them within three points of the home side before Karl Buttle went over in the final minute to wrap up a bonus-point victory.
The result means 'Stoke move off the bottom of the National Three London table - and they could move out of the relegation zone with a win over bottom side Thurrock next week.
