Sherfield School pupils enjoy sporting success
WITHIN the first week of the new term, two pupils at Sherfield School have enjoyed outstanding success in athletics and tennis.
Sprinter Myles Richardson won a bronze medal in the 200m at the prestigious UK Sainsbury School Games in Sheffield, while young tennis star Tilly Reid gained first place on the County Tennis Leaderboard for under-nine girls.
Sprinter Richardson has enjoyed a great season and his latest medal came as he was part of the England South West squad representing Sherfield School in Sheffield when he ran an impressive 21.95 seconds.
This added to earlier successes in the year for the Basingstoke and Mid Hants runner, which included a brace of silver medals in the Southern Counties under-17 Championships at 100m and 200m.
He clocked 11.23sec for the 100m, despite running into a strong headwind, while he completed the 200m in 22.14sec.
He also won the Hampshire Grand Prix 100m held in Basingstoke and the 200m at the Hampshire County Championships in Portsmouth.
Reid is a Totally Tennis Mini Performance player and is aiming to be in the Orange One squad before Christmas.
Her best achievement to date was winning the County Leaderboard, which saw her awarded a gold medal from the Lawn Tennis Association and also a 2013 winner towel and letter recognising her success.
Sherfield Schhol headmaster Dick Jaine said: “Both Tilly and Myles have performed at an exceptional level in their recent competitions and we are proud to have them representing Sherfield School.
“We will continue to support them in their sporting and academic aspirations and look forward to their continuing success”.
