Tom Cleverley on England duty
BASINGSTOKE-BORN footballer Tom Cleverley will be hoping to help England qualify for the World Cup over the course of the coming week.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who plays his club football for Manchester United, has been named in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the upcoming games against Montenegro and Poland.
England host Montenegro at Wembley tomorrow night (kick-off 8pm) before completing their qualifying campaign with a home game against Poland on Tuesday (kick-off 8pm).
Hodgson’s men must win both games to be certain of reaching the finals in Brazil but Cleverley is not expected to start either game, with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Jack Wilshere ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.
Another player hoping to feature in the crucial games is Southampton striker Rickie Lambert. The 31-year-old has scored two goals in his first three international appearances but his place in the side is likely to come under threat due to the return of Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge.
