Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow's weekly column

LAST week’s game against Hayes and Yeading United brought another frustrating and disappointing result.
It was a game we dominated for long periods but we lacked conviction and incisiveness in the final third. Some of the approach play was very good but we now have to add the finishing touches.
I believe that the preparation that goes into games is now the best it has ever been at the club – from the reports and videos of opposition to the analysis of our own players and games.
We have an analyst now, who gives very detailed statistics for each player and the team. He also provides us with clips from each game to use with the players for training purposes, focussed on positives and areas that need to be worked on.
The equipment and training methods we use are excellent and prepare players for the game ahead.
Of course all of this does not guarantee results but we are putting into place a system that gives us the best possible chance to win games.
This week we were fortunate enough to borrow some GPS equipment for each player. This costs thousands of pounds and tracks every movement of every player, the intensity of each run they make, their heart rate and many other things.
The results were very interesting and shows the effort from the players in the game was very good.
These are things we are trying to introduce to get the best out of players.
Keep the faith, all the ground work is being done, the players are playing some very attractive football at times and now we need to finish moves off with goals. This is obvious and something we are working hard to rectify.
