Tadley Calleva well beaten by Team Solant
TADLEY Calleva lost ground on the Wessex League Division One leaders as they went down to a 5-1 defeat away at highly-fancied Team Solant on Saturday.
The opening 20 minutes were fairly even, with Brett Denham, Scott Kinge and Sean Dallimore all failing to make the most of decent opportunities for Tadley.
Poor defending then allowed Team Solent to take the lead and it was 2-0 after 25 minutes, Dallimore’s miss-hit back-pass finding the top corner for an own-goal.
The hosts added a third before half-time and were 5-0 up before Denham netted a late consolation.
Tadley manager Danny Dolan said: “They were the better side on the day and I would be surprised if they are not in the top two at the end of the season, but again, two big errors cost us. The second goal really seemed to knock the stuffing out of us.”
The result leaves Tadley eighth in the table and they host Andover New Street, a side who currently sit 15th, this weekend.
Dolan added: “I still think we can finish in the top six and nothing less than three points will do on Saturday. We will not be under-estimating Andover New Street because they got their first win of the season last week and, in this league, anyone can beat anyone else on their day.”
