AFC Aldermaston lose at Headley United
AFC ALDERMASTON conceded a late goal to lose 2-1 away at Hampshire Premier League high-flyers Headley United on Saturday.
The visitors went behind after 23 minutes. A free-kick was needlessly conceded out wide and the ball was delivered to the far post, where a Headley player popped up to score.
That was the way it remained until the break but visiting Aldermaston improved in the second half and pulled level on 53 minutes. A good move down the left resulted in a cross that was flicked over the home goalkeeper by midfielder Jimmy Pearce, one of two players called up from the third team.
The game looked set to end in a draw but Headley nicked all three points late on, making the most of some more poor defending.
Aldermaston manager Terry Rooney said: “It was not a great game between two poor sides on the day. A draw would have been a fair result but we are just leaking goals at the moment.”
Next up for Rooney’s side is a trip to North Berks League outfit Crowmarsh Gifford in the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup this Saturday.
“We are looking forward to the cup game,” the Aldermaston boss added. “We will certainly be taking the game seriously because we want to go as far as we can in every competition we have entered.”
