Overton United romp to Hampshire Intermediate Cup victory
DOUBLES from Alex Jupp, Nathan Rae and Danny Houseman helped Overton United to an 8-1 victory over visiting Frimley Select in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
Overton created plenty of chances in the first half but it took them until the 45th minute to take the lead, Jupp smashing in an excellent shot from 25 yards.
Pete Grinham’s near post header doubled the lead but Overton were punished for relaxing after going two up as Frimley Select pulled a goal back.
Rae’s fine solo goal restored the two-goal cushion almost immediately, while Houseman’s diving header from Dave Parry’s cross made it 4-1.
Houseman, who also managed to put a corner out for a throw-in attempting to play the ball short, then turned provider, squaring the ball for Rae to score his second of the game after a mazy run.
Jupp’s second of the game made it 6-1, while Chris Morris and Houseman’s second completed the scoring late on.
Overton manager Titch Bloomfield said: “It was really pleasing. We put on a good performance in the second half and it was a good result.”
The village side return to Hampshire Premier League action on Saturday, hosting Liphook United.
“Liphook are always a good side,” Bloomfield added. “They have won the league twice in the last three years and look strong again this season so it will be a tough game.”
