Mixed results for AFC Aldermaston
IT WAS a mixed week for AFC Aldermaston, with a big win over Fleetlands followed by a heavy defeat at the hands of Hampshire Premier League high-flyers Clanfield.
Terry Rooney's side claimed a fine victory last Wednesday, beating hosts Fleetlands 6-3 despite going behind after 10 minutes.
Goals from Kai Parton-Edey, Jamie Porter and Dan Alliston had the visitors 3-1 ahead at half-time, while Parton-Edey went on to complete his hat-trick after the break and Alex Sylvester netted a fine individual goal.
However, they were brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday as visiting Clandon maintained their place at the top of the table with a 5-1 victory.
Aldermaston made a good start but Clandon took the lead on 24 minutes and were two goals up by the half-hour mark. Karl Hanks' free-kick reduced the deficit but Clandon restored their two-goal advantage just before the break and netted twice more in the second half.
Manager Rooney said: “We made five sloppy mistakes and got punished five times. Other than that, we took the game to them and were on top for long spells.”
Aldermaston, who sit 14th in the table, have another tough away game on Saturday, travelling to Headley United, a team expected to compete at the top this season.
Rooney added: “It should be an interesting game. We have not played them yet but we will see what happens and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.”
