Big guns ready to fire Basingstoke RFC to first win
BASINGSTOKE RFC director of rugby James Croker is looking for this weekend’s home game against Thurrock to be the springboard his side need to get their season started.
Having been dealt the toughest start possible having to play the three top sides in National Three London, his side have no points to show for all their efforts.
This Saturday opponents Thurrock also have yet to pick up a single point after defeat against Bury St Edmunds, Dorking and Old Elthamians who beat ’Stoke last weekend.
Director of rugby Croker said: “When you look at the table five teams have yet to register a victory, so a few wins for any team will see them climb up the table.
“ This week we have Thurrock at home and this is one of the games we believe we can win.
“We have to forget the results of the first three weeks and take the positives from these games and what we did well. Then we just have to focus on the Thurrock game.
’Stoke will be boosted by the return of some of their big guns as Freddie Gleadowe, Ash Paterson, Jamie Fish, Jamie Folan, Steve Osborne and Adam Davies are all excepted back.
Unfortunately, they have an injury doubt on lock Cama Keresi, while Ryan Davis will miss the game as he completes a two match ban.
“We are looking forward to the challenge and the guys are eager to get their first win.
“I believe we can compete in this division and I am sure in a few games time that will proved by our results.”
Last weekend at Old Elthamians they were very complimentary about our display, desire and endeavour.”
