Bison ready for Milton Keynes Lightning double header
THE Basingstoke Bison have their first double header weekend of the season coming up, and it will be a tough one as they face the Milton Keynes Lightning.
The first game on Saturday (face-off 7.30pm) is in Coventry, which is MK’s home for this season while their rink is being refurbished.
The return is at the Basingstoke Arena the following night starting at the earlier time of 5.30pm.
Bison captain Nicky Chinn will be up against the side he played for last season which will add extra spice to the encounters.
Milton Keynes once again this season have made only a few changes to their line-up with four new faces.
They are three forwards – Slovak Stanislav Lascek and a pair of Brits from Peterborough Tom Carlon and Jordan Cownie – while new in defence is Brit Ben Russell.
All three forwards scored on their debut weekend for MK, which proved a good one for the Lightning as they beat reigning league champions Guildford at home last Saturday and then came back from two goals down to win 6-2 in Bracknell the following night.
Games in recent years between the Herd and MK have been very close and it would be no surprise if one of the games this weekend was decided by a penalty shoot-out.
The Bison will be at full strength and have an added incentive that victory in the weekend series will move them above their rivals to fourth place in the table.
Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard is keen for his side to build on their first four-point weekend of the season said: “Obviously last weekend was a big step for us in the right direction getting four points and we want to keep that momentum going.
“We know this weekend is going to be a tough one as both teams will believe they are capable of taking four points and will not want to split the series.
“Milton Keynes are very defensive team which make it hard to create chances, so we have to make sure we take the ones that we get.”
