Beverley strikes as Basingstoke Town Ladies win FA Cup tie
8:00pm Friday 27th September 2013 in Sport
LINDSEY Beverley scored the winner for Basingstoke Town Ladies as they won their FA Women’s Cup first qualifying tie at Andover New Street Ladies.
Their reward is a trip to Downend Flyers, who play in the South West Women's Football League Premier Division on Sunday October 6.
Beverley so nearly gave Basingstoke an early lead, but her sixth minute effort hit the post.
The woodwork then again came to the rescue for Andover again as Lianne Hill and Katie Saunders had shots that hit the post on 25th and 26th minute mark.
Then just before the break, Town’s Tracy Jones was found by Josette Pearmine, but her shot was saved.
Basingstoke goalkeeper Erin Davies then pulled off two good saves just before half-time to keep the game scoreless.
The visitors broke the deadlock with what turned out to be the winner on 67 minutes.
A free-kick from sub Carla Mitchell on the left was cleared only as far as Katie Randell, who found Beverley all alone to score.
Andover then came looking for an equaliser and Erin Davies pulled off some more good saves to make sure her side won.
Pearmine was voted Town’s player after a brilliant game in the midfield.
This Sunday, the side are back in Southern League Premier Division action against Mansfield Road at Winklebury (kick-off 2pm).
The Basingstoke Town Ladies Reserves lost 2-0 away to Bournemouth Sports in their league.
This Sunday, they travel to Alton Town Ladies for a Hampshire County Women's League Junior Cup tie.
