Ten men Tadley Calleva are still too good
TADLEY Calleva moved up to second spot in the Wessex League Division One after a 2-0 victory over visiting US Portsmouth, even if they played 70 minutes with 10 men.
Ash Roberts was the man to be given his marching orders with a straight red after raising his arms.
This meant the home side were forced to go with a 4-4-1 formation with Brett Denham taking on the role of the lone striker and he went close to giving his side the lead just before the break.
After the interval Tadley even with 10 men dominated the game and it was Danny Vickers who gave them a deserved lead with 20 minutes to go.
This advantage was doubled 10 minutes from time as sub Andrew Charsley free-kick hit the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Darren Maunder despite being ill kept a clean sheet and Simon Bird was outstanding at the back.
A depleted Tadley side were unable to cause a shock in the Wessex League Cup as they lost to Premier high flyers Sholing 6-1.
Craig Masterton scored their only goal after good work from James Milford.
This weekend, Tadley go in search of their first ever win in the FA Vase as they travel to Combined Counties League Division One leaders Knaphill.
Manager Danny Dolan is looking forward to the tie and said: “They have our former goalkeeper Lee Allen and are sitting pretty at the moment at the top of their league. “They are scoring a lot of goals, but we have not be conceding many recently so we are all looking forward to the game.”
Tadley will have a full squad to pick from except for Scott Kinge and Matt Aslett.
