Pochettino ready to fight fire with fire against West Ham
Much to Pochettino’s relief, the Saints manager has had ten internationals all return fit and well.
The only injury doubt is Danny Fox who twisted his ankle in training on Wednesday.
“Everybody returned fine,” reported Pochettino.
“We are pleased because all the players returned in perfect condition.
“The only problem we had was on Wednesday when Danny Fox twisted his ankle in training so he’s a doubt for Sunday.”
Saints host the Hammers at St Mary’s on Sunday hoping for a win to make it officially their best ever four game start to a Premier League season.
But Pochettino is well aware of the threat Sam Allardyce’s team will pose – even without £15m striker Andy Carroll.
“From the three games we have seen we can tell they are physically very strong and play a very simple but direct type of football which is very effective for them,” he reasoned.
“They have very good players and they play in a very determined and very particular way that suits them.
“We need to be prepared to suffer in certain moments of the game against them but what we need to do is impose the way we play on them and match them strength for strength.”
Having the game on a Sunday is a welcome bonus for Pochettino who gets an extra day to work with his troops, including Gaston Ramirez whose trip to Uruguay meant he wasn’t able to train with the squad until today.
“It’s very important we have one day more to train and prepare,” said Pochettino.
“This was the first day we can train together after the international break.
“It’s important before a game to have two sessions to train together before a game so it’s positive for Sunday.”
