BASINGSTOKE and District Sunday League Division One champions CI FC were given a scare by visiting Basingstoke Saints but began the defence of their title with a 5-2 victory.

Keith Davies gave CI an early lead but Saints bossed the game for most of the half and Matt Cuthbertson’s brace gave them a 2-1 advantage at the interval.

The visitors continued to press in the early stages of the second half but were unable to score any more goals – and CI made them pay late on.

Jon Richardson fired in two to edge the home side in front and while Saints continued to impress, late goals from Paul Adams and Liam Breslin made the points safe for CI.

Kaiser Wessex were crushed 7-0 by visiting North Warnborough. It was a very impressive team performance by the winners, who included a few new signings.

Tron built on their impressive debut to Sunday football, scoring five goals for the second week running, this time without reply from visitors Basingstoke Sports & Social.

Tron opened their account on 11 minutes as David Parry collected the ball on halfway, waltzed around two players and joyfully slotted past the advancing goalkeeper. The second goal came on 18 minutes as Charlie Palmer latched on to a Laith Aldoori through-ball.

Tron didn’t appear too fazed when they were reduced to 10 men on 22 minutes, when one of their players was shown a second yellow card, and went another goal up just four minutes before the break. Parry got on the end of a cross to the far post, making it 3-0 at half-time.

Aldoori’s strike from 18 yards into the top corner made it 4-0 and Gary Osmond fired in a low drive on 78 minutes to complete a comprehensive victory and secure top spot in the table.

Visitors Sports & Social created a few chances throughout the match but were unable to make any of them count.

In Division Two, Chineham took an early lead through Kieran Alleyne and made a good start to a tight contest against RAF Odiham Blades.

The visitors settled and, with Jonathan Stead bossing the game, they took a 2-1 lead into the break thanks to goals from Ryan Woods and Nico Barker.

Chineham fell a further goal behind and then saw a penalty saved.

This opened the floodgates for Blades, who took the tally to 7-1, with Ryan Woods, Barker, Stead’s brace and Dale Woods netting.

Chineham managed to stage a final rally, with Alleyne completing his hat-trick, but they were too far behind to catch up, eventually losing 7-3.
