Weekend away for Adventure AS
12:00pm Saturday 14th September 2013 in Sport
ADVENTURE AS went for a two-day event on the prolific Essex venue, Coleman’s Cottage, last Wednesday and Thursday.
Day one saw the club on Pathfield Lake, where Darren Wright did the business with 191lb of carp on pole, caster and maggot. Martin Wickens took second spot, netting 173lb of carp on pole and paste.
Match secretary Nick Sargent caught 161lb of carp on chopped worm and caster, while Mick Fordham put 143lb in the sack using pole and paste. In total, 18 fished and all caught.
Day two at Coleman’s Cottage saw Adventure on Wood Lake and it was Martin Wickens’ time to shine on pole and paste, bagging 209lb of carp.
Kevin Holmes included 100lb plus of silverfish in his 187lb total. Chopped worm and casters on the pole was the method employed.
Darren Wright’s 181lb of carp and silvers fell to pole, maggot and caster, with James Andrews making up the frame on 168lb of carp and barbec on chopped worm and caster. 18 fished and Martin Wickens was crowned the two-day champion.
Camrose AC were at New Barlows last Sunday and practice made perfect for Brian Orchard, who won it with 27lb of carp and bream on the pole and pellet.
Rob Frost put 26lb 4oz of mainly bream in the sack on pole and pellet, Bill Gordon’s 19lb 10oz was a pole, meat and carp affair, just edging out Colin Thomas on an even 19lb.
Who says fish don’t have brains? Bob Frost hooked a 3lb bream that jumped out of the water and landed on a floating island. The fish then unhooked itself and slithered back into the lake, leaving Bob firmly attached to the island and scratching his head.
Kennett Ospreys went to Timsbury Manor on Sunday and on a patchy venue, Pete Newman scored with 80lb 2oz of carp on corn and meat close in. Steve Hunt employed meat short and long for his 50lb 4oz, just bettering Pat (the hat) Hollis, who weighed 49lb 10z. 14 fished and caught.
Adventure AS were at Orchard Lakes for their latest club match and in-form Darren Wright topped out with a whopping 268lb of carp on paste close in.
James Andrews came next with 235lb of mixed close in on maggot, Fred Gill caught mainly carp on pole and pellet for his 233lb, while Mick Fordham made up the frame on 207lb. 17 fished and caught.
The Barney Barrington Memorial Match takes place on Sunday, September 29. The venue will be the Beale Bird Park stretch of the Thames, the great man’s favourite Thames venue.
Unfortunately, as it stands at present, the owner of the stretch will not be allowing fishing after this season, so let’s have a bumper turnout.
The draw will be in the main car park at 8.30am, the fishing times will be 10.30am to 3.30pm and the cost will be £20 all in, with £5 going to charity. To book, phone Sean Barrington on 01256 412012 or 07766 818726. See you there.
’Er indoors took herself off to Belgium with her sister last weekend. Good job the lady next door knew her way around my kitchen or I would have gone hungry.
Catch me next week.
