Basingstoke Bison prepare for return to the ice
BASINGSTOKE Bison fans will get the chance to see their new look Herd in action for the first time this weekend as they take on reigning champions the Guildford Flames in back-to-back challenge games.
The first game is at the Basingstoke Arena on Saturday (face-off 6.30pm) and the return at the Spectum a day later (face-off 6pm).
The matches will also give the fans a chance to see their team in their brand new 25th anniversary shirts, which they will be wearing this campaign.
Guildford look the team to beat again this time around, having added British forward Tom Duggan and Swedish import Marcus Kristoffersson to their squad, while the only departure is Canadian Nathan Rempel.
It is just the test Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard is looking for ahead of his side’s English Premier League opener against Swindon Wildcats a week on Saturday.
The Herd boss said: “This will be a big test for us right off the bat and we will see how we match up against one of the top sides in this league.
“I will use the weekend games to try out a number of line combinations and all the players are looking forward to getting back out on the ice.”
Members of the Herd will be at Nando’s in Festival Place tonight between 9pm and 10pm, giving away tickets for the home game against Guildford.
The following Saturday night, Nando’s will be the match night sponsor for the Herd’s league opener against Swindon. During the game they will be raising money for Naomi House with donation buckets.
