AFC Aldermaston and Overton United prepare for big derby
AFC ALDERMASTON entertain Overton United in a derby in the Hampshire Premier League on Wednesday.
Both sides will be looking to Saturday as springboard ahead of the game, with Aldermaston looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games as they face Fleetlands, while Overton have a tough trip to Baffins Milton Rovers.
Aldermaston ended a spell of three games in six days with a 1-0 victory over visiting Hedge End last Monday, thanks to a winner from Kevin Blakey with a superb 30-yard volley.
Two days earlier, at Bournemouth Sports, honours were shared in a 4-4 draw with the home side taking the lead. Aldermaston levelled when Karl Hanks’ free-kick was headed in by Jamie Porter. They then took the lead as a Michael Porter header in midfield set free Blakey to score.
Back came Bournemouth to level, but by half-time the visitors led 3-2 as Kai Parton-Edey scored.
The home side equalised again on 50 minutes, but the introduction of Dan Alliston led to Parton-Edey making it 4-3.
However, just after the hour, Bournemouth completed the scoring as both sides settled for a point.
Last Wednesday, Aldermaston returned from another away trip with a point after drawing 1-1 at Winchester Castle as Phil Howard scored their goal.
Aldermaston boss Terry Rooney said: “I have to be content with two draws and a win in six days, but we felt we could have won the other two games as well.”
Overton fortunes have not been so good over the same period as they lost narrowly 1-0 at Paulsgrove last Saturday and two days later they went down 7-1 at QK Southampton.
