Good weekend for Whitchurch United
WESSEX League Premier Division side Whitchurch enjoyed a four-point weekend after a 2-2 draw with Folland Sports last Saturday and then an excellent 3-0 win at Downton on Monday afternoon.
Whitchurch started brightly at Downton, with Luke Walker’s long range effort being saved before Ashley Ledger scooped a chance over the bar.
The sides went in at 0-0, but 10 minutes after the break the outstanding Issac Sedu went on a nice run before being felled in the box and Walker converted from the spot.
Ali Brown then saw his header cleared off the line, while Jason Graham came on for his debut and set up fellow sub Shane Long to score.
Graham then saw his goalbound effort pushed over the bar by a defender resulting in a second penalty, which Graham saw saved, but the striker put away the rebound.
The win followed up a 2-2 draw at home to Folland Sports, in which Sedu and Ledger both scored.
Talking about the two games, Whitchurch boss Jim Macey said: “Saturday’s game we looked comfortable at 2-1 to win the game, so it was a shame to draw it.
“At Downton we could have scored 10, but their goalie was excellent and at 0-0 I thought ‘here we go again’.”
Blackfield and Langley visit Longmeadow on Saturday before Whitchurch make the short trip to Winchester City on Tuesday, if they do not have an FA Cup replay.
