Trevor Thornton wins high scoring Adventure match
3:00pm Sunday 1st September 2013 in Sport
ADVENTURE AS had a high scoring match at Dandys Lane on Sunday last.
Trevor Thornton topped the weights with 128lb 4oz of carp on pole and meat close in. Dave Butler’s 126lb 12oz of carp fell to a pole and pellet approach. Match secretary Nick Sargent put 116lb 12oz of carp in the sack using a pole and meat approach, while consistent Kevin Smith’s 113lb 8oz of carp were caught down the edge on sweetcorn.
21 anglers participated and weighed.
Camrose AC took themselves to Soke Road Fishery for their latest trip, and it was Bill Atkinson who sorted it best, catching 22lb 10oz of carp on pole and pellet (what else). Danny Williams fished pole and paste for his 19lb 8oz of carp. Pete Morris used pole and pellet close in for his 18lb 10oz, while Pip Seeny made up the frame with 15lb 13oz of carp on pole and pellet.
10 fished and caught.
Kennet Ospreys arrived at Cove AC’s venue, Theale Pit, to find it double-booked, so a quick switch to Frobury Farm Match Lake Two, saw myself record a rare win, fishing paste on one plus top two, I bagged 38lb 14oz of carp.
Ian Jones fished corn long and short for his 31lb 8oz of carp, while Glen Wills and “Bag Up” Bob Poulter both weighed 27lb 6oz of carp, the former on meat and the latter on pellet. Self professed second best angler in the world, George Cooper, was beaten both sides by Camouflaged Jim and Mick Cooper (no relation). Let’s hope that keeps him quiet for a while.
Oxoid AC’s latest match was at Witherington Farm’s Cottage Lake, and Pete Lovegrove duly did the business with 52lb of carp and skimmers on long pole and worm. George Coomber’s 41lb 12oz of mixed was caught on a pole and maggot approach. Pete Matthews came next with 41lb 5oz of skimmers on pole and pellet, and Del Baulsom made up the frame with 29lb 1oz of carp and skimmers on pole and maggot.
Nine fished and caught.
The Tony Skeats memorial match will take place this coming Saturday, on New Barlows Lake, Tadley, a venue that Tony enjoyed fishing during his long battle with leukaemia. Some of Tony’s fellow Kennet Ospreys members will be fishing, as will ex-work colleagues and members of his family. If you don’t fish, but knew him, you are welcome to attend the get-together and barbecue after the match.
The competition will commence at 10am and finish at 3pm, with the draw at 9am.
Stacey’s supremo Keith Brown is in charge of the catering, so a weight gain looks on the cards for most of us.
I took my five-year-old granddaughter to a fishing tackle shop, Tadley Angling, for the first time. She immediately told the proprietor Kevin Roberts that the maggots were smelly and that there was not enough room for her to sit down because of all the tackle on display. However, she mellowed after receiving chocolate biscuits and squash.
She reminded me of ’er indoors.
Catch me next week.
