Paul Buckingham's heroics in vain as Rotherwick ITW lose again
PAUL Buckingham made 69 for Rotherwick ITW - but it was in a losing cause as they lost to Petersfield II in Hampshire League Regional Division One North.
Rotherwick ITW were the only local side to get a whole game in. Petersfield made 237-6 and while Paul Buckingham made 69, Rotherwick came up short of their target, finishing on 144-4.
The only other local team to play at all in the division were Ashford Hill. Their home game against Littleton and West Hill II was abandoned with the hosts 25-2 chasing 310-2.
More cricket was played in Division Two North, where Odiham and Greywell remain top of the pile after a 185-run win over visiting Stockbridge. Paul Voisey’s unbeaten 82 helped the hosts to 264-8, while Becky Hartnett took 5-28 as Stockbridge were dismissed for 79.
St Mary’s are down to fourth despite winning by five wickets at home to Aldershot IV, reaching their reduced target of 141 from 29 overs after restricting the visitors to 180-6.
Struggling Hartley Wintney III claimed a rare win, beating visiting Thruxton by 23 runs. Jack Mitchell made 64 as Hartley made 168-9, while Jack Cockram took 4-18 as the visitors were restricted to 145-9 in reply.
Burghclere did not fare so well away at Chawton. The hosts made 310-6 and while Ben Lawrence reached 53, Burghclere were bowled out for 128, losing by 182 runs.
Garfield Coombs and Alex Harding were unbeaten on 67 and 64 respectively when Herriard’s home game against Upper Clatford was abandoned in the 23rd over, while Old Basing II’s trip to Steep II was also rained off.
Odiham and Greywell II remain top of Division Three North East after a 136-run win at Basingstoke and North Hants V, with Kyran Munt the star of the show.
The Odiham man made 86 with the bat, while Tom Wiltshire reached 53 and Liam Schooling 52 as the visitors made 307-6. Basingstoke’s target was reduced to 270 but they were bowled out for 134, Munt taking 6-14 to complete an excellent day.
Ramsdell II enjoyed a nine-wicket win over visiting Tichborne Park III. Colin Dwyer took 6-37 and Mike Lerigo 3-16 as the away side were skitted out for just 53, with Ramsdell losing just one wicket in their successful run chase.
Overton II lost by 14 runs to visiting Twyford, being bowled out for 176 after dismissing their opponents for 190.
Silchester and AWE Tadley II were denied likely victories by the rain. Shey Bradley took 4-16 as Silchester bowled visiting Liphook and Ripsley III out for 146 and they were 92-6 when the match was abandoned 18 overs into their innings. AWE restricted visiting Knights Valley to 134-7 and were 58-1 when the rain came.
Overton III’s trip to Hawkley was abandoned after just two overs, while Hook and Newnham Basics IV’s visit to Compton and Chandler’s Ford III never even began.
Herriard II claimed an eight-wicket victory over hosts Midhurst III in Division Four North East. Pat McCarthy made 3-26 as the home side were bowled out for 126, while Dean Ridges guided Herriard home with an unbeaten 65.
There was also a win for Odiham and Greywell III, who beat Petersfield III. Hosts Petersfield made 231-4 and while rain curtailed the match after 23 overs of the Odiham reply, Matt Hall’s 81 helped them to win on a faster scoring rate as they ended on 161-3.
Bradley Head made an unbeaten 53 as Herriard III reached 154-7 but visiting St Cross Symondians VI won by six wickets, reaching their reduced target of 141. Oakley II’s trip to Easton and Martyr Worthy III and Ashford Hill II’s game at Otterbourne III both fell victim to the weather.
