Whitchurch move out of the drop zone with a vital win
WHITCHURCH moved out of the Hampshire League County Division Three North relegation zone with a three-wicket win over visiting Holybourne on Saturday.
On a showery afternoon, Whitchurch bowled their opponents out for 202 before being set a reduced target of 191 due to rain delays. They lost seven wickets but got home to claim what could prove to be a massive victory, especially considering that every other game in the division was wiped out.
Hook and Newnham Basics II will have been glad to see the rain come as they hosted Lymington II in Division One. Kishore Parmar took 4-50 but the visitors made 301-9 and Hook were 50-3 off nine overs when the match was abandoned.
Old Basing remain in the relegation zone after their home game against Ryde was called off at tea.
The rain also caused most games in Division Four North to be called off, but AWE Tadley did complete their trip to Crown Taverners. The hosts made 261-6 and while Tadley’s target was reduced to 227 by rain, they were bowled out for 168 to lose by 59 runs.
