Basingstoke Gymnastic Club dominate home event
OVER 70 gymnasts from all over the country took part in the annual Basingstoke Gymnastics Championship.
The morning session saw the Acrobatics Gymnastics mixed pairs, women’s pairs and women’s trios, trampolining, tumbling, men’s artistic and disabilities.
Basingstoke Gymnastics Club dominated the disabilities event taking home two golds, six silvers and six bronze medals.
Peter Thomas and Ben Steer made their competition debuts with Alex Elliott-Welch performing well following his qualification for the special Olympics Games this year.
Basingstoke’s Eimee Brown and Kate Hyatt competing in the women’s pairs took silver in the level one category at their first competition.
The afternoon included the women’s artistic challenge for beginner, intermediate and former levels.
Home gymnast Katrina Beagley won silver in the over 18s beginners category and Louise Palmer took gold in the over 18s intermediate class following a two year break from competing.
She scored an impressive 41.55 following clean routines on all four apparatus, with the beam routine particularly solid as she nailed a tricky low spin with ease.
