Jonathan Rowe wins Captain's Trophy at Hartley Wintney GC
JONATHAN Rowe posted a brilliant score of 40 points to win Hartley Wintney Golf Club’s Captain’s Trophy.
A total of 96 players took part, with 12 managing to amass more than 36 points, but it was Rowe who came out on top, finishing one point clear of his nearest rivals.
They were Keith Mullin and Trevor Buchanan, who both finished with 39 points, Buchanan claiming second spot on countback. One point further back were Desmond Doyle and Tom Dowe, with Doyle taking fourth place on countback.
The club’s August Midweek Medal was won by Tim Shenton-Taylor with a nett score of 66 (-5). Ian Callaway was one shot back in second, shooting a gross round of 70 (-1) off a handicap of three, while junior Harry Doyle claimed third place thanks t a nett round of 68 (-3).
Linda Turner and Paula Spurrier’s run in the Knight Cup ended at the quarter-final stage as they were beaten on the second extra hole by a duo from Highcliffe, having beaten a pair from Brockenhurst in the previous round.
A total of 34 players competed for the Ladies Trimmer Trophy, with Niki Orchard coming out on top with a score of 37 points. She was just one point clear of three players, with Sue Rockhill claiming second place on countback, Christine Campbell finishing third and Jackie Keay having to settle for fourth.
At Town Meadow Golf Club, in Overton, Kevin Stares won the July Medal thanks to a nett round of 49 (-5). Kenn Dodd was second after shooting nett 52 (-2), beating Rob Walker into third place on countback.
Phil Nolan recorded a nett round of 46 (-8) to win Division Two, one shot clear of Dave Slater, with Gary Beecham a further stroke back in third place.
