Stuart Archibald claims top-10 finish in Scotland
STUART Archibald is up to 65th on the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit after finishing in a tie for ninth place at the MarHall.com Scottish Classic.
The Basingstoke golfer travelled to Earl of Mar Golf Club, near Glasgow, for the event and posted three under-par rounds to finish in a tie for ninth on -6.
Birdies at holes 17 and 18 saw Archibald post an opening round of 68 (-2), leaving him four shots off the lead. He fared even better on day two, three birdies on the back nine leading to a three-under-par round of 67.
He was in contention going into the final round, five shots off the lead, but was unable to work his way up the leaderboard on the final day. He made six birdies over the course of the round, but five bogeys meant a score of 69 (-1), leaving him five shots behind winner Dave Coupland.
Archibald’s performance earned him £750, moving him up to 65th on the Order of Merit, while he is within one win of a top 10 spot.
Elsewhere, Old Basing golfer Andrew Cloke, who is attached to Bishopswood Golf Course, in Tadley, has been in action on the Southern PGA tour, finishing eighth at the Stoneham Pro-Am and 16th at the Waterlooville Pro-Am.
He has also been playing on the Hampshire PGA circuit, finishing fifth at the Dibden Golf Centre Charity Pro-Am with a one-under-par score of 69 to move up to sixth on the Order of Merit.
He also competed at the Blackmoor Golf Club Pro-Am, carding a four-over-par round of 73 to end up seven shots off the pace. Also competing at Blackmoor were Hartley Wintney’s Liam Austin, who shot a seven-over-par round of 76, and Ben Cummings of Tylney Park, who carded a round of 81 (+12).
