Open week is a big hit at Basingstoke Golf Club
BASINGSTOKE Golf Club recently hosted its annual open week, with four open competitions taking place over the space of five days.
Monday saw older golfers compete for the Seniors Trophy, which was won by Matthew Murphy from Cams Hall Golf Club, who amassed a score of 36 points.
Two days later, Stoneham Golf Club members William and Christine Walker claimed victory in the Mixed Pairs Better Ball, thanks to an impressive total of 46 points.
The Junior Open took place the following day. It was played over 36 holes and won by Royal Winchester’s Lawrence Clinch, who was presented with the Wallis Trophy after finishing with a nett score of 132 (-8).
Also impressing on the day were Stanley Garland from Meon Valley, who recorded a nett score of 134 (-6), while Sandford Springs’ Max Nicholls was a further shot back.
The week ended with the Mens Pairs Invitational, a better-ball and greensomes 36-hole affair. The winners were Ian Briggs and Andrew Johnston from Newbury and Crookham Golf Club, who amassed a total of 81 points, pipping Michael Hunter and John Moore from Hainault Forest, in Essex, by a single point.
Young golfers from across the county flocked to Hartley Wintney Golf Club for a Hampshire Golf Partnership Junior Development Tour event.
A field of 28 took part, with Josh Poulter (Hockley) claiming victory ahead of James Sankey (Royal Winchester) and Weybrook Park’s Charles Kelley.
