Tadley Calleva looking forward to first ever FA Cup tie
TADLEY Calleva will make club history when they face visiting Ascot in their first ever FA Cup tie on Saturday.
The home side from Wessex League Division One will certainly start as underdogs against their Hellenic League Premier Division rivals, who opened their campaign with a 5-0 win at Abingdon.
Tadley boss Danny Dolan knows his side will be up against it, but will not rule out an upset and said: “Being our first FA Cup tie, it is going to be a memorable day.
“They are a good team and Jermaine Roach scores goals for fun for them, but I have players who hurt teams. I am sure my team will be up for the game and we want to give a good account of ourselves.”
Tadley maintained their unbeaten start to their league campaign with a 2-2 draw against visiting Hythe and Dibden last Saturday.
Scott Kinge opened the scoring with a 25-yard shot after a nice lay-off from Grant Powell.
The home side then went close to adding a second as a Brett Denham effort hit the post and Spencer Barlow had a shot saved.
The visitors levelled thanks to a hash looking penalty as the player went to ground too easily, but Tadley regained the lead after the break as a free-kick from the edge of the area was dispatched into the top corner by Powell.
With Ash Roberts forced out of the game due to sickness, Tadley had to reshuffle and Hythe made the most of it by grabbing an equaliser.
After the game, Dolan said: “We did not play well, but we have not been beaten.
“Hythe are not a bottom five side now, so after two games I am happy with four points.”
