Sam Argent makes great start to Hartley Wintney career
HARTLEY Wintney moved up to third spot in the Combined Counties League Premier Division after two 3-2 victories in the space of three days.
On Tuesday night, the village side won at Cove, having beaten visiting Frimley Green on Saturday.
If is far cry from last season, when Hartley took until the first week in February and 22 games to reach 10 points.
Sam Argent, a summer signing from Whitchurch, netted twice in each game and opened the scoring at Cove in what was his league debut with a backheel.
The home side levelled and that is how it stayed until half-time, but Argent and a 30-yard volley from Jack Coventry made it 3-1.
An own-goal gave Cove hope, but Hartley held on to take the win.
In the home game with Frimley, the village side were 2-0 down after 15 minutes and staring their first defeat in the face.
However, by half-time they led 3-2 as Argent bagged a brace after Shane Hollamby had scored the opener.
With 15 minutes to go, Coventry received his second yellow card, reducing the home side to 10 men.
Even more drama was to come as Frimley were awarded a penalty and missed it.
Hartley boss Ben Dillon said: “I am really pleased with the way things are going, but I think we have to start killing teams off.
“It was not Jack Coventry’s fault, they were never yellow cards. I just hope he is not suspended for the FA Cup tie.”
That is next for Hartley as they travel to Hellenic League Premier Division side Kidlington, who did not get their season off to the best start with a 5-0 defeat.
Dillon added: “We are not going to underestimate them and it would be nice to have a good run in the competition.”
