Alex Danson desperate to reach EuroHockey final
ODIHAM hockey player Alex Danson is aiming to end her bronze medal hoodoo at the EuroHockey Championships, which starts on Saturday in Antwerp, Belgium.
The England forward has won five bronze medals in this tournament and is hoping she can help her side do better this time around.
England have been drawn in Pool B, where they will face Spain, Germany and Scotland, while in Pool A, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Belarus will battle it out, with the top two sides from each group making the semi-finals.
Danson was a bronze medal winner at the Olympics and said: “I’ve been to five Europeans and won five bronze medals, so I’m hoping to break that and get ahead of the Dutch or Germans for once.”
England open their campaign against Spain on Saturday (9am), followed by Germany the following day (1pm). Their final group game is against Scotland on Tuesday (1pm). All three games are being shown live on the BBC’s red button service.
