Old Basing gears up for the visit of Lashings
ANOTHER great family day at a cricket ground will take place at Old Basing on Friday, August 23.
The village is set to play hosts to the Lashings team for the first time in its history.
A big crowd is expected at the Recreation Ground for a match where entry is free.
The visiting side is made up of former Test legends including the likes of Courtney Walsh and one of Hampshire’s best-ever opening batsmen, Gordon Greenidge, along with former England stars Devon Malcolm and Phil DeFreitas, to name a few.
They are sure to put on a great display and provide a really entertaining game. It will get underway at 2.30pm.
However, the day is not all about cricket as there will be plenty going on at the ground all day as the club wants to make it an event for all the family, rather than just a cricket match.
There will be children’s entertainment and a colts game from midday, while refreshment will be provided by a beer tent, barbecue and hog roast.
Free parking will also be available.
Paul Eckersley, of the organising committee, said: “We want to make it a great family day for everyone.”
There are a still a few places for any fans who want to make it an extra special day by watching the game in style in the corporate tent, which will be serving a three-course lunch and tea.
